Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP peptide) is a naturally occurring neuropeptide and hormone that plays a crucial role in numerous bodily functions, including digestion, blood pressure regulation, immune response modulation, and circadian rhythms.
Due to its wide-ranging effects, it is being researched for potential therapeutic use in various inflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions.
VIP is a 28-amino acid peptide that acts by binding to specific G-protein-coupled receptors (primarily VPAC1 and VPAC2) located in many different tissues and organs.
Therapeutic Potential & Clinical Use
While naturally occurring VIP has a very short half-life in the bloodstream (around 2 minutes), stable synthetic analogues have been developed for potential therapeutic applications.
- Current Medical Uses: A combination product containing VIP and phentolamine mesylate (brand name Invicorp) has been used clinically for the management of erectile dysfunction. Inhaled VIP has also been used in limited clinical trials for conditions like idiopathic pulmonary hypertension and sarcoidosis, showing promising results.
- Research & Future Directions: VIP is being actively investigated in animal models and clinical studies for a wide array of conditions due to its anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, including:
- Autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, colitis), and multiple sclerosis.
- Neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, where it may protect neurons from inflammation.
- Cardiopulmonary disorders such as asthma, COPD, and pulmonary arterial hypertension, where its bronchodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects are beneficial.
- Metabolic conditions, with research suggesting it influences appetite and body weight regulation, making it a potential target for future obesity treatments
For research use only, not to be used in clinical trials involving humans. Documentation is for information only.
Note:
With this option, we will mix it for you with bacteriostatic water and put it into a disposable pen (no vial received). The pen offers easy and accurate dosing for your research purposes, adjustable from 1 to 60 iu’s. It comes complete with enough alcohol swabs and needles to complete your research, all contained in a case.
If you already have a reusable pen you can also buy this peptide premixed in a cartridge only (see alternate product).
